VERY NICE LARGE WORKING ANTIQUE 3 BIRD DEEPLY CARVED BLACK FOREST CUCKOO CLOCK:
$118.99

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equallyimpressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at ourother items!

This is a very nice find of a large, hand crafted, 8 day traditional cuckoo clock with a rare 3 Bird case that was created about 60 years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, \"West Germany\" by the \"Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company;\" a really original name. Actually, the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company did a great deal to popularize the cuckoo clock since they were quick to mobilize after WWII and did all they could to get one of their fine clocks into the hands of GI\'s returning home after the war. My father brought one home and I remember it to this day. This clock is a remarkable old survivor and shows average or less wear and a gorgeous patina. It is carved entirely of cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The attention to detail in the thick, wavy, and deep carvings is simply breathtaking and it sports an unusual deep Pecan finish too; very nice! The front isadorned with seven, large, heavily carved wood grape leaves and grape vines too. There is an impressive, deeply carved wooden bird on either side of the wooden dial and each bird is looking upward with their red eyes at an even larger bird perched with a red eye perched atop the grape vine branches at the very top of the case and looking as though he\'s ready to take flight. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numeralsto mark the hours and a rare pair of matching, fancy, wooden hands to point out the time. The country name is shown on the lower dial as \"W Germany.\" The woodenback also shows \"Made in Germany\" as the point of origin and is secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to themechanical movement inside the case bearing the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company name and Germany point of origin too. A weight driven movement simplymeans that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, chimes, and cuckoo activity. The tall bellow or whistle tubes areintact and thetops look good and make good sound too! At the bottom of each hour, the small wooden door above the dial opens and a colorful bird stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled chimeinside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closing the doorbehind him. The bird returns at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimesthe current number of hours before going back inside the clock and closing the door; absolutely fascinating! Keep in mind that this is an old clock, not a new one and we don\'tknow the service history. It\'s really a beautiful antique and I suspect you\'d never guess it was a 60 year-old clock. In fact, I found the original bellow clips still attached to the bellows and the original factory installation instructions. There is even an envelope with extra chain in it should you need a longer chain for the clock. The movement does show signs of past maintenance but nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always recommend to ourclock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once everythree years. Doing so will turn a classic like this one into a family heirloomin years to come. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find much in the way of wear at all and no damage or missing parts. It is amazing to look at, listen to, and is one of the nicer clocks I\'ve seen in some time. It is an impressiveclock and equally so in size measuring about 15\" high (not counting the weights orpendulum), about 6\" at its deepest point, and about 10\" or so across the top. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets ofattached metal chains, a fancy, wooden, hand carved grape leaf pendulum, the original factory instructions, extra small lengths of chain, and two heavypinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is a collection all by itself and iscertain to attract a great deal of attention from guests in your home, office,or wherever it is that you care to showcase a beautiful Black Forest timepiece. offer with confidence since this is a clock you will be proud of!
