BERG - SOX\" across the top and \"EVENING AMERICAN\" around the bottom. Cream-colored porcelain face with black graphics and four mounting holes around the perimeter. The design is based on the scarce 1930 Chicago Evening American baseball premium series featuring Cubs and White Sox players. Moe Berg is one of baseball\'s most fascinating figures - a Princeton-educated, multilingual Major League catcher who later became an OSS intelligence operative during World War II and was awarded the Medal of Freedom. His remarkable life was the subject of The Catcher Was a Spy . Berg memorabilia has crossover appeal among prewar baseball, Chicago White Sox, Jewish sports history, and espionage collectors.
