Dhokra art style of Chattisgarh fish sculpture incense burner. Purchased in India in 1960's. Very nice pre-owned condition. Lovely greenish patina. Please view all photos for measurements and views. The artisans associated with the craft often belong to the Malhar or Malhore tribes. This form of art has been practiced for centuries and was commonly used as a means to pay for goods and services as a part of the barter system. Today, despite technological advancements in the brass and metals industries, Dhokra art is done almost entirely by hand, rejecting the use of most contemporary and industrial machinery. The material used is copper alloy. Artisans use ancestral tools and moulds to prepare the objects.
