A wonderful original souvenir from the 1939 New York World\'s Fair, celebrating the extraordinary architecture, transportation, industry and optimistic Art Deco vision of the World of Tomorrow.

This colorful vintage textile features a fabulous illustrated panorama of the World\'s Fair, with numerous fair buildings and attractions identified by name, including:

• Administration Building
• \"Perisphere & Trylon\"
• Textile Building
• Railroad Building
• Federal Building
• Marine Transportation
• Meat & Production
• and other Fair structures and displays

The design is printed on a rich deep blue ground, dramatically accented with red, green, yellow, cream and white. Small floral/foliate motifs fill the spaces between the buildings, while a distinctive geometric border frames the entire piece.

The words “NEW YORK WORLD\'S FAIR 1939” appear prominently around the border.

The 1939–40 New York World\'s Fair was held at Flushing Meadows in Queens and became famous for its futuristic architecture and its vision of modern life. Souvenir textiles such as this were popular keepsakes for visitors. Museum collections today preserve similar 1939 World’s Fair scarves and handkerchiefs as historical souvenirs.

This example is in outstanding condition for a textile dating from 1939.
