Fantastic original Old Shay De Luxe Beer and Ale illuminated advertising sign from the Fort Pitt Brewing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This is a Price Bros. cash register light, a style documented to approximately 1940, and features the classic Old Shay slogan:
“For particular people”
The sign has a beautiful reverse-painted glass face with etched decorative wheat and hop details around the perimeter. When illuminated, the red background, Old Shay lettering, and lower slogan panel really come alive. It has an outstanding early tavern/bar display look.
The rear is marked Fort Pitt Brewing Co., Pittsburgh, PA, further confirming its brewery advertising origin.
The sign is working and lights properly.
Condition
The reverse-painted glass displays well but does have areas of paint loss, particularly within portions of the Old Shay lettering and graphics. There are also scattered small scratches and other expected signs of age.
The gold-tone metal base has tarnishing, finish loss, oxidation, spotting and general wear consistent with an original approximately 85-year-old advertising piece.
Despite the age-related wear, the sign has tremendous character and presents especially well when illuminated. The etched glass details remain attractive and the bright red graphics give it a great display presence.
Please review all photos closely for the exact cosmetic condition.
Approximate size: 13.5" wide × 9.5" tall
A very desirable early Fort Pitt / Old Shay breweriana display and a considerably harder-to-find piece than later plastic beer lights.
