This vintage 30s-40s Burgundy Oxblood Ceramic Lamp is a really cool early mid century light fixture! It features a beautiful deep burgundy or "oxblood" glaze which was used by many art pottery studios. This lamp *may* be McCoy--it has a backstamp of "USA" and another 2 letters/numbers which I can't decisively determine (backstamp is located next to the hole for the cord). I think the letters/numbers could be the mold number, such as "6M" or "8M", but also I think it could be "NM" for Nelson McCoy. From some internet research, "NM USA" was used in the 30s as a backstamp for the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company. Since this lamp appears to have the original switch which likely dates to the 30s-40s, that checks out with the "NM USA" stamp time period as well. I tried my best to photograph this--please zoom in and see what you think! The switch is cool as well--it features a dual-sided red and black Bakelite switch. I did test the lamp and it works, although for regular use, buyer may want to consider updating the wiring. The lamp includes a matching finial (but there is no shade). I will include the low-wattage warm white led light bulb shown in the second photo! This beautiful lamp would make a really nice addition to your collection of mid century/art deco pottery and decor!
Condition: Good vintage used condition (with consideration given for its age). The color and glaze look very nice. Only minor crazing on the glaze in certain spots on the lamp (see last 3 close-up photos showing the very thin crazing lines).The lamp does work, and the switch and lightbulb housing appear to be original (they are loose and need to be tightened). The metal parts have some tarnish. The cord is not polarized -- buyer might consider replacing. One small manufacturing defect on the glaze can be seen on the front of the lamp's base (see area circled in yellow.) Also, there is a tiny chip on the bottom corner of the lamp, which can't be seen when upright (see area circled in yellow.)***I try to note all major condition issues; however, the item is vintage/used, so please refer to photos and zoom in to see more detail regarding condition.
