VTG Hotel Del Monte Menus (1936-1937) – Jo Mora Woodcut Graphics (RARE 12 Lot) For Sale

Presenting for sale is a rare complete lot of 12 vintage hotel menus in heavy card stock published by the historic Hotel Del Monte of Monterey California, dating back to 1936-37. Featuring unique graphics by Jo Mara, who used strong, wood cut-style pen & ink to capture dramatic moments in California's history depicting missions, Spanish conquistadors, Native Americans and early settlers.
Artwork was originally created for an advertising campaign for the hotel and used later for its menus.Each menu has a different date, cover, a story about the artwork on the cover, along with different corresponding menus. Full sets were available to diners by simply asking the waiter. Artwork was reused every 12 months from 1936 through 1938.The menus showcase traditional American cuisine and offer a glimpse into the past with their charming vintage designs.Highly sought after by collectors of vintage Western California, hotelephemera, and Jo Mora's art.This set starts from Dec 1936 through Feb 1937. Each card measures 10" x 4.745" folded and 10" x 9.5" open.
Condition for the menus range from excellent to good commensurate with age and use. You will find foxing along with minor tears, creases and stains (depending on each menu) as depicted in photos.
