VTG Japanese Mukozuke Footed Bowls Scalloped Pinecone Mino Ware Style Set of 5 For Sale

These vintage Japanese footed "Kozara" or Mukozuke" bowls feature a flower-like, scalloped edge. Their shape refers to a Kikkyou-gata (bellflower) or Asagao-gata (Morning glory) flower. The distinctive spiral swirl mark on the bottom center of the bowl is called a Uzumake motif, commonly applied in various regional Japanese kilns and especially common on the underside of Mino-ware (Mino-yake). The bowl's interior features a pine branch design. In Japanese culture, the pinecone is deeply symbolic and represents longevity, endurance and good fortune. In Japan, this type of dish ware is popular for season hosting, particularly during autumn and New year celebrations.
