This is a set of beautiful, mouth blown, colorful swirled glass reeds or adornments. I purchased these in the late 70s early 80s at the Chicago Design center. I'm not an interior decorator but every year ( for a few days) the center opens to the public and sells high end luxury name brand furniture and home decor that are on display, floor models.
I've always loved and collected antique and vintage Murano glass. So these three pieces immediately caught my eye. They were simply lying on a table, not even really displayed. The lady at the store told me that these were the kind of pieces that were used as opulent statement makers in huge floral centerpieces in a grand hotel entrance or in the foyer of a mansion.
I had visions of making my own beautiful floral centerpiece with these three gorgeous swirl glass adornments. The closest I ever got was to put them in a tall glass vase with some mid century modern copper pussy willows, see the photo of how I displayed them in my home.
These glass reeds are heavy, each one weighs over 2 1/2 pounds. The two green ones which are swirled with white are 30 inches long. The blue one is 24 inches long only because part of the stem broke, as you will see in the photos.
I've enjoyed these for many many years and now it's time for somebody else to use them and be creative with them. FYI, I was unable to find anything like these three pieces for sale on the Internet or in any stores in America. I did find pieces that were about the size that had a metal rod on the bottom and were used for garden sculptures, and they were very, very very expensive and they were from China.these are not from China.
I'm not quite certain how I'm going to package these for shipping but I suspect I will pack each one in a separate box, and of course, carefully pad it and protect it.
Other than the broken stem on the blue piece, there are no chips, no scratches, and no repairs to these three pieces.
