The Village Voice Thursday July 18th 1968 NYC newspaper.
What\'s amazing besides what\'s mentioned is the other ads apartmentsfor rent ads for instance......The rental price for a two bedroom apart--ment in Manhattan back then will make your jaw drop! If we only hada TimeMachine :)
This issue contains:
Ad for the legendary concerts by the Doors ,The Who, the Jimi HendrixExperience (Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplinwere added to the Jimi show) at theSinger Bowl in Queens...Still hardto believe, that within three years of these concerts Jimi, Janis and Jimwould pass on. Thepage that the ad is on will flatten out very easily.
Ad for a benefit showing of The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour at theFillmore East
Ad for Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin) atWestbury Music Fair
Ad for Andy Warhol movie The Chelsea GirlsAd for Andy Warhol movie Bike Boy to be shown at the NewAndy Warhol Garrick Theatre
Complete newspaper, no pages missing or cut outs.
The reason why I read The Village Voice in the 60\'s was simple....To keepup with the local music scene....The Voice was much more than music, butthat\'s why I lots of other people my age read it.
The Voice was alternative to the New York Times, The Dailey News, the NewYork Post. If you wanted to see when and who was playing in the clubs andtheaters (think Fillmore East lol) in the metropolitan area, the Voice is whereyou\'d see upcoming shows advertised. Dare I say hip clothing shops (Limbowas my favorite).
Remember this was the 60\'s....Long hair, bell bottoms, WOR FM and thenWNEW FM head shops, TheBeatles peace signs,Dylan, black light posters, hash, the JimiHendrixExperience, tie-die clothing, incense, the wordhasslebeing overusedby many lol,LSD, theDoors, coffeehouses, the Fillmore EastNehru jackets(didn\'t lastlongluckily lol), granny glasses viaRogerMcGuinnof the Byrds.....There\'s aglimpse :)
I have this at Best Offer, so if you\'re interested in it and the price seems highto you, you can make an offer for it at a price that you feel comfortable paying. If it\'s reasonable I will accept your offer.
I put all Village Voices ( I have a lot of them) that I obtained over the years in newplastic sleeves and stored themin cartons in a temperature controlled and asmoke freeenvironment.
Condition: This issue is in Very Good- condition, there\'s toning and thetwo back page are spilt at the fold towards the middle.....It just needs tohandled with care, like all these newspapers. They\'reover 58 years old.
What you see in the images in the listings (I\'ll be listing more of these), is howI originally received them.
This issue was/ is folded as you can see and it will ship it folded. if Ireceived it flat, I will mention it in the listing and ship it flat.
