Original vintage Kingdom of Italy tricolor flag featuring the crowned coat of arms of the House of Savoy, dating approximately to the 1930s–1940s / WWII era.
Large format flag constructed from separate green, white and red natural fabric panels, with the crowned Savoy shield centered on the white field. The emblem is hand-rendered, as was the customary finish, in red and blue, giving the flag an individual appearance.
The hoist is reinforced with a heavy natural-colored canvas heading fitted with brass grommets. Construction, materials and overall appearance are consistent with period flags produced during the final decades of the Kingdom of Italy.
The crowned Savoy arms distinguish this from the plain Italian tricolor and are associated with official state and military/war use during the Italian monarchy.
Measurements: approximately 65 inches long and 44 inches high.
Condition is visibly age-worn and atmospheric, with fading and variation to the colors, discoloration and staining to the white field, general surface wear, and scattered small marks. There is an approximately 4-inch tear at the fly end of the red panel. Please see photographs for the construction and condition details.
A striking large-scale surviving flag from the Kingdom of Italy, with excellent display presence and particularly appealing hand-drawn Savoy insignia.
