Charming hand-painted tin tray by New England folk artist Peter Ompir (1904–1979), signed on the reverse. Depicts a driver in a carriage pulled by a horse. Red-painted turned rim. Approximately 8¾” diameter.Ompir worked from the 1930s through the 1970s, painting on tin, graniteware, and household objects; his pieces were carried by major retailers including Macy’s and Neiman-Marcus. This piece comes from the estate of Gilbertine “Gibby” Moore (1914–2008) of Franklin, Kentucky.
Condition: There is a dent on the front below the horse that has caused a localized paint chip, as shown in the photographs. A couple very small additional dents on the rim. Otherwise displays well with strong color and a clear, legible signature. Photographed in varied lighting and with closeups to give you the most accurate representation possible.
