This is a beautiful vintage hand-painted ceramic pitcher or ewer from Garland Ceramics, dated April 1959. The piece is signed on the bottom by the artist, Mary Chester. It features a striking black glaze with a central band depicting Greco-Roman style dancers and figures with theatrical masks, rendered in white and black. The scene is framed by upper and lower bands with a raised Greek key meander pattern in a terracotta/pink color. The pitcher stands approximately 10.5 inches tall and has a unique, stylized white handle. A wonderful example of mid-century hobbyist studio pottery.
