Wonderful matching pair of vintage Mexican Amate bark-paper folk art paintings, believed to date to approximately the 1960s–1970s.
These highly decorative hand-painted works feature the wonderfully bold imagery associated with traditional Mexican Amate folk art. One depicts a dramatic bird and red rabbit/hare surrounded by flowers and tropical foliage, while the companion piece features a green rabbit/hare nestled among an elaborate flowering plant.
Both paintings have exceptionally vibrant color palettes incorporating hot pink, turquoise blue, emerald green, orange, yellow, red, black and white against the naturally textured brown bark-paper ground. The strong black outlines and highly stylized animals and vegetation give the pair a fantastic Mid-Century Mexican folk-art presence.
The paintings are presented in their coordinating vintage brown mats with narrow gold-tone inner borders, making them especially attractive displayed together.
Each artwork: approximately 9” x 12”
Each overall mat: approximately 14” x 17”

CONDITION
Vintage condition with age and characteristics consistent with handmade bark-paper artwork and vintage matting. Natural variations, texture and irregularities in the bark paper are inherent to this type of folk art and contribute to its character.
