An attractive piece of vintage Korean luxury-hotel and international travel memorabilia, the silver-gray box features the embossed Westin emblem above “THE WESTIN CHOSUN – Seoul.” The side panel carries the hotel\'s period contact information:
C.P.O. Box 3706
Seoul, Korea
Telephone: 771-05
Telex: K24256
The box retains a substantial quantity of its original white-tipped wooden matches and has the original burgundy striker along the side.
The Westin Chosun has an unusually important place in Korean hotel history. The original Chosun Hotel opened in Seoul in 1914 and became one of Korea\'s landmark Western-style hotels, serving generations of international travelers, diplomats and prominent guests. The original structure was replaced by the modern high-rise Chosun Hotel, which opened in 1970. Westin entered the hotel\'s history in 1979, and the property subsequently became known as The Westin Chosun.
The hotel hosted numerous prominent international visitors over its long history. Gerald Ford stayed at the Chosun during his 1974 presidential visit, and Ronald Reagan stayed there during his 1983 visit to Korea.
