Beautiful vintage Russian Gzhel porcelain covered sugar bowl or bonbonnière, dating to 1999. This ornate piece is hand painted in the traditional cobalt-blue-on-white Gzhel style with floral and scrolling decoration.
The bowl has an especially decorative form with four raised feet, elaborate side handles and a highly detailed sculptural finial on the lid.
The underside bears Gzhel markings, including the crowned double-headed eagle factory mark associated with Gzhel production beginning in the late 1990s. It is also artist/author marked and dated 1999.
Approximate measurements:
• Almost 7” tall to the top of the finial
• A little over 6” wide
A striking example of Russian Gzhel porcelain and a beautiful display piece for a blue-and-white porcelain collection.
