Vintage 32\" African Senufo Rhythm Pounder Male and Female Wood Statues 1990\'s For Sale

Purchased new in Africa in the mid 1990\'s. African Senufo Rhythm Pounder male and female hand carved wood statues, 32\" tall, the male is slightly shorter. Both have carved tattoos on their faces, shoulders, stomach and thighs.
The female has a small crack in the back of her foot pedestal, the male has a larger crack in the front of his foot pedestal. I believe these cracks happened over the years as the wood expanded...moisture and heat can triggers these type of splits. There is some wear on the finish, but no damage or breaks besides the cracks in the pedestals. The last photo, close-up of male shows an area on the thigh..this looks like a tattoo was started and not finished...and has slight crack, same as pedestals.
These statues were held by their arms, or curved bodies and used to pound on the ground as part of ceremonial rituals. The male and female pair had a specific meaning.
