Vintage brass membership medal from La Société des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (40 & 8), the honorary veterans’ organization founded in 1920 and originally affiliated with the American Legion.
The medal depicts the famous French railroad boxcar marked 40 Hommes / 8 Chevaux, with a World War I soldier standing beside the tracks. It hangs from the organization’s traditional horizon-blue ribbon.
A nice collectible for military history, American Legion, or veterans’ organization collectors.
