Spectacular vintage Fantasia Products Sunburst Model 4000 fiber optic lamp featuring the iconic chrome Space Age body and an enormous cascading spray of genuine fiber-optic strands.
This is an exceptionally nice surviving example. The fiber spray is remarkably full, dense and symmetrical, creating the dramatic fountain/fireworks effect these lamps were famous for. Many surviving Sunburst 4000 lamps have substantial fiber loss, broken strands or sparse and uneven sprays; this example has been very well preserved.
When operating, the internal mechanism produces a continuously changing display of colored light through the fiber-optic strands. The fibers shimmer and change appearance as the mechanism operates, while the highly reflective chrome body mirrors the light display and adds to the effect. It is particularly impressive in a dark or dimly illuminated room.
Condition:
Very fine vintage condition. The lamp has been tested and is fully operational. The fiber-optic spray is exceptionally full and presents beautifully, with the color-changing effect functioning properly. The chrome body is also exceptionally clean for its age and retains a brilliant reflective appearance. Any minor signs of age or use are consistent with a carefully preserved vintage piece. The Fantasia Sunburst 4000 is one of the great statement pieces of vintage fiber-optic lighting—a combination of Space Age industrial design, kinetic lighting and wonderfully over-the-top period décor.
