An exquisite pair of vintage, entirely handcrafted indigenous children’s soft-sole, leather (suede) beaded moccasins; in golden palomino color (yellow brown) featuring hand-stitched smooth unlined leather interiors (no labels) with hidden seams, vamps feature a single hand-sewn red Woodland-style glass floral bead embroidery (green top leaf and yellow center) real, long-haired natural fur trim (coyote or, beaver fur) leather wrap-around lace ties and contrast welt piping details. In very good vintage condition; structurally sound with tight stitching and plush, intact fur… please note one sole bottom has marks as shown in last photo. Just beautiful.
These moccasins showcase traditional First Nations/indigenous crafting techniques. Pleasant, faint smoky aroma (likely smoke-tanned.)
I displayed these for over a decade inside a clear glass cloche (bell jar) … just as a great suggestion to display these while protecting the moccasins’ delicate fur and hide. The Cloche is not included with the sale of moccasins.
- moccasins are approximately 5” long bottom soles x 2.5” wide x 4” tall ( the fur band is 2” wide)
- origin unknown but likely made in NW Canada (Dene) or, perhaps Alaska (Athabascan)
- Cree or Métis tribal affiliation likely
