Item Description:Up for sale is a remarkably unique, authentic pieces of historical maritime folk art. This heavy desk ashtray features an engraved brass plaque identifying it as a relic of the S.S. Onondaga (1905–1918), created by the renowned mid-century specimen collector and dealer, B. Mason.The S.S. Onondaga was a steel steam cargo ship that met its end on June 28, 1918, after striking a reef in heavy fog off the coast of Watch Hill, Rhode Island. To clear the navigable channel, the sunken vessel's hull was later blasted away with dynamite by salvage crews. This piece was painstakingly crafted using a cut-down, heavy military shell casing retrieved from the salvage site.Features an authentic notched cigar/pipe rim, an incredibly rugged dark patina, a beautifully aged brass identification plaque held by two rivets, and a vintage black protective felt base.
