Vintage Bendix T-435A/AMT-4B U.S. Military Radiosonde Weather Balloon Instrument
Original vintage U.S. military radiosonde manufactured by The Bendix Corporation, Friez Instrument Division. This is an early-1960s balloon-borne meteorological instrument designed for high-altitude weather data collection.
This example includes both major marked sections of the AMT-4B radiosonde No. 11577

The original case also retains the fascinating military identification/instruction marking stating that the instrument is a radiosonde and was used by the U.S. Army or Air Force to obtain high-altitude weather data, and that it was not required to be returned to the government after use.
This was not simply a radio transmitter. The AMT-4B radiosonde system was carried aloft by balloon and used to collect and transmit atmospheric/weather information including temperature, pressure and relative humidity.
The transmitter section retains its original external frequency adjustment controls marked “FREQ. RAISE.” Original wiring, brackets, suspension components and other hardware remain present as shown.
Condition:
Vintage used condition with age-related discoloration, surface dirt, scratches, scuffs, stains, oxidation/corrosion to some metal components and general storage/use wear. There are exposed/loose wires and the instrument shows evidence consistent with its age and original field use. The transmitter section can be removed/separated from the main housing as photographed.
I have not tested the electronics or transmitter, and no attempt has been made to power the unit. It is being sold untested, as-is, as a historical military/weather instrumentation collectible. No representation is made regarding current electronic operation or completeness beyond exactly what is visible in the photographs.
