The piece is finished in a matte black glaze overlaid with a mottled gold/gilt patina that is heaviest across the back and haunches and thins toward the face, giving it a weathered, antiqued look. The almond-shaped eyes are hand-painted in gold, and the exposed ceramic body shows as unglazed white at the chin and along the base.
