For Your Brass Doorknocker A nice and unusual vintage cast brass doorknocker. The knocker is shaped in the form of a Cat sitting on his hind legs with his front legs straight in front of him. The cat has its ears perked up with a smile on his face and wearing a bowtie The cat is on a hinge attached to a thin base having a raised half ball on the bottom and two holes, one on top and one on the bottom, to insert screws and hang it on a door. There is an extension protruding on the back of the cat at the bottom which knocks on the half ball on the bottom of the base of the knocker. The cat is the knocker itself, which when raised and released, allows the protruding extension at the bottom to hit the half ball on the base and make the knocking noise. The piece is toned and could use a good cleaning to bring out its original beauty, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A very nice unusual vintage doorknocker worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Unknown but most likely mid 1900s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The back/base measures ~4" long, is ~3/4" in diameter at the top and bottom rounds, ~1/4" wide. The front (the Cat) measures ~3 1/4" long and is ~1" at its widest. The piece weighs slightly over 4 ounces.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice cast brass doorknocker with an interesting design to add to your collection.

Condition: In good condition with no breaks or repairs. The piece has several surface scratches and a few dings. The knocker is heavily soiled and could use a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty. However, we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. The knocker works very well and has a nice knocking sound. It is all original with original swivel pin. A nice and very unusual piece to add to your collection.
