Vintage cast-iron figural alligator advertising piece in good overall condition with age-related surface wear.
The iron has an attractive dark aged patina with scattered oxidation, surface rubbing, scratches, discoloration and casting texture consistent with age and use. Raised “MONON ROUTE TO” lettering remains clearly visible across the body.
No cleaning, repainting or restoration has been done by us.

Unusual vintage cast-iron Monon Route railroad advertising alligator paperweight.
The solid figural casting depicts a stylized alligator or crocodile with an elongated curved tail, four spread legs and raised lettering across the body reading:
“MONON ROUTE TO”
The Monon Route was associated with the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville Railway, an important Midwestern railroad commonly known simply as the Monon. The railroad used alligator imagery in connection with its promotion of through travel south toward Florida; an early Monon timetable specifically advertised routes from Chicago through Louisville and onward to Florida.
