Vintage Circa 1969 Autopoint Sales Giveaway 0.5mm/0.9mm Mechanical Pencil #3108 For Sale

Vintage Lot of a Boxed Circa 1969 Autopoint Sales Giveaway Double 0.5mm & 0.9mm Mechanical Pencil Model No. 3108 (with a pocket clip).This model (3108) was introduced in 1968 and was only produced up to the early 1970s (production stopped probably in 1971 or 1972). This 3108 model was introduced in 1968 with the name \"The Auditor\" pencil, because the 0.9mm end was designed for business use such as when auditing. (note that the other end hasthe golden 0.5mm tip designed with longer metal \"points,\" exclusively for drafting purposes, and there exist another model called 3107 with two of these 0.5mm golden tips, that Autopoint called the \"Draftsman\" pencil in 1968). The Draftsman pencil was significantly more expensive than the Auditor pencil, most likely due to the golden electroplated componenet. Still, the Auditor was first introduced with a golden electroplated pocket clip such as the one listed in this sale. There is another 3108 variation(i.e., not included in this listing) that has a chrome/silvonite finish pocket clip.Note: Although this pencil is expected to be from the 1960s, the Autopoint logo on its barrel, featuring the slogan \"The Better Pencil,\" was used long before the Cory Corporation took over Autopoint in 1952. Cory had a different Autopoint logo on other sales pencils. This suggests Cory and future owners of the Autopoint brand have all retained the old \"production seal\" at the Autopoint factory and used it for various sales-giveaway samples. I cannot say with certainty why this was the case- to have an older logo imprinted on a newer pencil- but I speculate it may have been an Autopoint tradition to bring back old logos, probably just for fun. This logo has been used since the early 1930s, and possibly in the 1920s too. It was used exclusively for sales-giveaway pencils without specific model numbers on the barrels (i.e., dealer pencils rather than salesperson pencils). It may also have been used on a few sales sample pencils with model numbers, but I have never seen such a pencil from Autopoint.
The pencilworks,mechanically, but otherwise, expect the worse in term of condition, such as scratches, dents, dirt, rust, fading imprints, dirty imprints, etc. The pocket clip is rusted as the trace show on the booklet (see photos).The box and the booklet are included but they are in very bad condition with a lot of dirt, stains, color changing, rips, rust, tears, etc.
Selling as is, for parts only, as photographed, and with no return.The Autopoint Dealer\'s info are imprinted on the pencil, including name, address, and phone number.The dealer who owned this pencil used to work as a district manager for Autopoint and advertised for many products from Autopoint, Dur-O-Lite, Zippo, and others.More about the original owner of this pencil,Rebert (Bob) D. Amo:theSociety of Former Special Agents of the FBIin 1998 celebrated Bob Amo, whose name is imprinted on the pencil\'s barrel, for his work with the FBI as a special agent between 1951 and 1957. The1998 Society of Former Special Agents of the FBImentioned also that the Bob Amo worked as a sales manager between 1967 and 1972. Almost all the Autopoint stock that belonged to Bob Amo (i.e., that I purchased from the NY reseller) resonates with this exact period, with the Mr. Amo\'s name mentioned several times as an Autopoint District Manager. What is also remarkable is that the late Bob Bolin (i.e., Robert Luke Bolin) shared online a 1962 Autopoint Newsletter with Bob Amo attending the Autopoint\'s NY Sales meetings(probably as a salesmanfrom the Buffalo, NY area). The meeting was held in Buffalo, NY, at theClinton Aire Hotel on March 17, 1962.
