Vintage embroidered commemorative patch celebrating the First Lunar Landing of Mankind – July 20, 1969.
This example was acquired in the 1990s and has remained stored as part of a personal collection. The patch appears unused and remains attached to its original Smithsonian Institution retail presentation card.
The original Smithsonian Museum Shops price sticker is still present on the reverse and identifies the item as:
“PATCH 1ST LUNAR LND” – $4.95
The patch features a detailed lunar scene including an astronaut with the American flag, lunar module, Earth and spacecraft, surrounded by a metallic gold-colored embroidered border. The bottom reads “United States of America.”
The presentation card is marked “Authentic NASA Space Mission Patches” on the front and contains informational text headed “Space Shuttle Insignia” on the reverse. Those markings are described here as they physically appear on the original Smithsonian packaging; this listing does not represent the patch as mission-flown or astronaut-worn.
Condition: New old stock (NOS). Patch appears unused and remains on its original vintage Smithsonian display card. The card has minor age/storage wear. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
