Vintage French Art Deco Arms-away flapper half-doll on a silk-skirted box base For Sale

A flapper half-doll of the arms-away kind, mounted on a covered box and dressed in a full gathered skirt. The porcelain figure is modelled with both arms lifted and held clear of the body, the fingers separated and the hands turned at the wrist as though caught mid-step. She has a black bob curving to the jaw, brown eyes with lined lids, a small orange mouth, and painted jewellery: drop earrings, a green and gilt necklace, and a bracelet on each upper arm set with an orange bead. Below the waist she is set on a central support inside the box, with cotton packed around her to carry the fullness of the skirt, and the whole is covered by the jupe: ivory silk gathered in tiers over a pink underskirt, drawn up in puffs around the base.Condition: the skirt carries scattered brown spotting, heaviest across the bodice, with general yellowing and soiling, and the fabric has gone fragile at the gathers where it has been handled. The fabric covering the base is rubbed and grubby underneath, with a pale patch where the covering has abraded away. One strap of her dress, passing over the shoulder and across the back, is detached and has pulled the bodice out of line at the front.
