Vintage French Porte-Bonheur Catholic Devotional Pocket Charm Crucifix Medal Set
Vintage French Catholic devotional porte-bonheur pocket charm set featuring a small crucifix and four religious medals mounted inside a folding red cloth case with a black textured outer flap.
The front of the pouch is printed “Porte Bonheur,” a French term meaning “good luck charm” or “lucky charm.” In this context, the piece appears to have been intended as a small devotional or protective religious keepsake that could be carried in a pocket or personal belongings.
Inside, the red fabric interior holds a central wood and silver-tone crucifix along with four ornate religious medals. The back of the crucifix is clearly stamped “FRANCE,” confirming French manufacture.
The medals appear to include Marian and Catholic devotional imagery. One medal is marked “FRANCE” and depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Another features the Virgin Mary with the French inscription “O Marie conçue sans péché…”, associated with the Miraculous Medal / Immaculate Conception tradition. The set shows noticeable age and use, including wear to the black exterior, fading and loss to the gold lettering, staining and discoloration to the red cloth, fraying and loose threads, surface wear to the metal components, and general patina consistent with an older devotional object. The wear is part of the piece’s age and history and has not been cleaned or restored.
I have not tested the medals or crucifix for silver content, so the metal should be considered silver-tone unless independently verified. No precious-metal claim is being made.
