From an estate, a MINT vintage French Vichy-Etat L’Eau Qui Fait du Bien (“The Water That Makes You Feel Good”) promotional advertising ashtray in blue & white ceramic featuring the famous French mineral water.
Has a M.D.L. backstamp for Moulin des Loups, a French ceramic factory opened in 1836 by Joseph de Bettignes which specialized in ironstone faience, and closed in 1962. This wafer ashtray measures 5.5” in diameter, 0.8” high, and weighs 6.35 ounces.
In 1861, the springs of Vichy Mineralizing Water were declared to be of public interest through a decree signed by Napoleon III, who also suffered from rheumatism. At that time, “Vichy-les-Bains” became the first medically-prescribed spa in Europe, and welcomed about 20,000 visitors a year.
