Saucer: 4 inches square
This cup and saucer set was always displayed in my Danish Grandfather's China cabinet (from 1960-1983) with his other Royal Copenhagen pieces. It was several decade old when he purchased it in 1960. It is in like new condition, it has the art nouveau branch handle with added blossoms. The serrated edge series is highly collectable and the square saucer is very rare- Royal Copenhagen does not make this series any longer and I have yet to find a source to acquire this set with the serrated square saucer (I've been searching for 5 years).
The Flora Danika collection began at the end of the 18th century with patterns inspired from the 3000 plant species depicted in Denmark's Danica Botanical Encyclopedia. I am not an authority but have done research on the set to help determine a price. Flora Danika pieces represent a much sought after royal legacy of the highest quality.
More about Royal Copenhagen~ Founded in 1775 by Queen Juliane Marie. She sought to improve Denmarkâs economy and established ed factories around the country to promote international trade paralleled with domestic growth. Royal Copenhagen was one of the first factories. The first made dinnerware and vases with blue-and-white motifs inspired by Chinese porcelain. Many of these patterns and designs are still made today. Their comprehensive body of work ranges from Rococo-style porcelain statues that incorporate stylistic floral patterns in an Art Nouveau style to modern vases by such noted 20th century Danish ceramists as Axel Salto.
