Striking vintage pair of hand-carved wooden bookends featuring two hooded, bearded monks/friars reading books.
The figures have wonderful dimensional carving with long flowing robes, detailed faces and beards, carved books, and dark reddish-brown wood tones. The faces have a contrasting golden/brown finish that really highlights the facial details.
The pair consists of two different poses/sizes, designed to complement one another. The taller figure measures approximately 9.5 inches high, with the second approximately 7.5 inches high. Both are mounted on substantial wooden bases.
These have a distinctive Gothic / medieval monastery library look and would make excellent display pieces in a library, office, study or bookshelf.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related surface wear, small scratches/nicks and finish variation. There is some light wear along portions of the hood edges. Please review photos carefully for exact condition.
