Vintage Italian Silver Lipstick Case - C1950s For Sale

The case on offer is an 800 silver, hand chased lipstick tube of the type sold in Florence to tourists in the 1950s and early 1960s. Almost without exception these lipstick tubes used the same design. They are oblong boxes with the lipstick tube holding the sprung mirror closed with a cabochon of some semi precious stone such as malachite, lapis lazuli or turquoise. The case on offer uses a faux malachite cabochon. Unfortunately the maker\'s mark is, as is so often the case, unreadable. But these objects were made in Florence in the 1950s and in their own way, are quite collectible - if only for the silver content. The case is 5.5cm long and 2cm square. It weighs 30gm.
