Vintage aqua-green J. Roberts Castleford Codd-style soda bottle featuring its original captive glass marble and rubber sealing gasket.
The front is embossed “J. ROBERTS / TRADE MARK / CASTLEFORD” around a pictorial castle-tower emblem. The reverse reads “CODD’S PATENT BOTTLE / EXTRA STRONG GLASS.” The base appears marked “10 OZS,” mold number 482 and a glassmaker emblem.
This is believed to be a later vintage reproduction of the antique J. Roberts Codd bottle rather than an original Victorian example. No “Made in India” marking is visible on this particular bottle.
Codd bottles used carbonation pressure to force the internal marble against a rubber gasket, creating a seal. The pinched neck held the marble away from the opening while pouring.
Condition: Displays very well with the captive marble and gasket still present. Light scratches, haze and minor residue consistent with age and storage. No contents included. The sealing mechanism has not been tested and the bottle is sold as a collectible display piece. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
