Antique John Primble India Steel Works No. 5600 Office Knife
Nice old two-blade John Primble pocket/pen knife featuring the distinctive “OFFICE KNIFE” lettering across the yellow handle.
The tang is marked:
JOHN PRIMBLEINDIA STEEL WORKS
The reverse tang is clearly stamped 5600.
The John Primble India Steel Works marking is associated with the original Belknap Hardware era, generally dated circa 1890–1940. Exact year of manufacture is unknown.
Mechanical condition: Both blades have noticeable side-to-side looseness/play. The blade located at the “KNIFE” end retains some snap when opening and closing. The blade at the opposite “OFFICE” end has no snap.
This knife shows honest age and use, including blade wear, scratches, staining, oxidation and patina. The handles show age-related discoloration, scratches and wear, with the OFFICE KNIFE lettering remaining clearly visible.
The knife has not been polished or restored and is being offered in its present as-found condition.
Please examine all photographs carefully. Photos are an important part of the description and show the condition, tang markings and 5600 pattern number.
