Vintage Korean Najeon Chilgi Mother of Pearl Lacquer Covered Bowl Tray:
$449.00

Beautiful vintage Korean lacquerware set attributed to the traditionalNajeon Chilgitechnique, featuring intricate hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl decoration on a deep black lacquer ground.

The set consists of a round covered bowl with fitted domed lid and finial, resting within a distinctive lobed decorative tray. The surface is densely decorated with hundreds of small iridescent shell elements forming geometric mosaic patterns, floral medallions and scrolling designs. Fine metallic line details further accent the decoration.

The combination of black lacquer, mother-of-pearl inlay and fine linear metal decoration is characteristic of traditional Korean lacquer craftsmanship.

Maker is unknown and the piece is unmarked. Based on construction, decoration and overall appearance, I believe it dates approximately to the mid-20th century, possibly circa 1930s–1950s. Exact date cannot be confirmed.

Approximate overall dimensions:
Height: 4 in
Width/Length across tray: 6.25 in

Please see the photographs with ruler for additional measurements.

Good vintage condition with normal age-related wear. No major cracks or structural damage and no obvious restoration observed. There are light scratches, rubbing and lacquer wear, particularly around contact areas and the underside, as well as scattered small chips/losses or voids within the shell inlay consistent with age and handmade construction.

Please review all photographs carefully. Photos are part of the description.

A distinctive example of Korean decorative lacquerware with unusually dense and finely executed mother-of-pearl mosaic work.
