Vintage Mexican Folk Art Basket & Trinket Box Collection – Copper Canyon, Mexico – Circa 2002
Beautiful collection of four handcrafted Mexican folk art pieces believed to have been purchased during a 2002 trip to Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico.
The collection was acquired from an estate along with original travel photographs and an article documenting the trip. The article describes Rarámuri (Tarahumara) women weaving and selling traditional handmade baskets near Hotel Mansión Tarahumara El Castillo in the Sierra Madre Mountains.
Included:• Flared woven basket – 7 inches diameter x 4.5 inches high.• Small patterned basket – 3 inches diameter x 2 inches high.• Flat round openwork basket – 10 inches diameter.• Wooden trinket box with decorative leather band – 3 inches diameter x 2.5 inches high.
All four pieces were found together with photographs and a travel article documenting a 2002 visit to Copper Canyon, Mexico. They are believed to have been purchased during that trip.
