Wonderful, highly collectible original wood carving by renowned New Mexico folk artist Miguel "Mike" Rodriguez. Known for his whimscal and expressive animal figures, Rodriguez's works are represented at major insituttional collections.
This charming piece depicts a stylized, long-beaked water bird (resembling an Ibis or Spoonbill) carved flat on the bottom to rest smoothly on a mantle, shelf, or table. It features a vibrant pink and purple hand painted body with distinct black spotting, accented by a bright yellow curved beak and green eyes.
Signed, "Mike Rodriguez 1988" on the base.
Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear consistent with age. Showing beautiful natural wood grain texture and tool marks consistent with authentic, handmade folk art craftsmanship.
