VINTAGE ORIGINAL NIMROD SPORTSMAN PIPELITER — WITH NIMROD PRESENTATION BOX
A genuine vintage Nimrod Pipeliter/Sportsman pipe lighter with the distinctive original four-sided center “nut”, accompanied by a vintage Nimrod Commander Pipeliter presentation box.
The lighter shown here is the classic threaded “nut-and-bolt” Nimrod design. Collector references specifically identify the four-sided nut as a distinguishing feature of the original Nimrod Pipeliter; later near-reproduction FGT Sportsman lighters use a six-sided nut instead.
ORIGINAL NIMROD DESIGN
The Nimrod Pipeliter was patented in the 1940s, and the Sportsman Pipeliter is documented in period advertising and collector references from that era. The Lighter Library documents original Sportsman examples, including examples with their boxes and instructions.
Its unusual construction was purpose-built for lighting a tobacco pipe, with the flame directed through the central opening rather than functioning like a conventional pocket lighter.
The result is a wonderfully distinctive piece of mid-century pipe-smoking and lighter history.
