Beautifulmatched pair of vintage carved stone Chinese guardian lions, commonly known asFoo Dogs. Each figure features detailed carving including expressive facialfeatures, open mouth and teeth, decorative collar, paws, mane and traditionalseated pose.
The lionsare carved from a greenish/tan mottled stone and mounted on contrasting darkbrown to reddish-brown carved stone bases. The stone displays natural colorvariation, with one base having considerably darker, near-black coloration inareas. The bases feature incised decorative designs on all sides with scallopeddetailing along the lower edges.
One base hasan incised marking on the underside. Please see photographs for the marking andoverall construction.
