This original EMPTY prescription container is from Parkview Pharmacy, which operated inside the historic Parkview Hotel at 1914 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, across from Overton Park.
The attractive red and black label prominently reads “PARKVIEW” and identifies pharmacist Frank Russell, Ph.C. Historical accounts of the Parkview Hotel specifically identify Frank Russell with Parkview Pharmacy. The pharmacy was one of the businesses located within the Parkview and once featured a marble-topped soda fountain.
The Parkview Hotel opened in 1923 as an upscale residential hotel and became a notable part of Memphis history. The surviving Parkview building has since been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
The original pharmacy label and prescription information remain on the container, providing a wonderful glimpse into mid-20th-century Memphis history. Based upon the pharmacy\'s history and the information appearing on the original label, this piece is believed to date to approximately the late 1940s–early 1950s.
