DESCRIPTION
This vintage postcard features a colorful illustration of Rebecka, daughter of Prince Jonathan, the Emperor of Attanoughkmonuck in Virginia. The queen is depicted in a regal red and green attire with an elaborate lace collar and a black hat. The postcard is a historical card, dated 1906, with a postmark and a one-cent stamp. The reverse side contains handwritten message and postal cancellation marks, making it a valuable collectible piece for history and postcard enthusiasts.
This image is a portrait of Matoaka, also known as Rebecca Rolfe, and more famously, Pocahontas.
The text around the portrait identifies her as \"Matoaka als Rebecka Filia Potentiss. Princ. Powhatani Imp.\" meaning \"Matoaka, also known as Rebecca, daughter of the mighty Prince Powhatan, Emperor\".
It also states \"Atatis su 21 A. 1616,\" indicating she was 21 years old in the year 1616 when this portrait was likely made.
The bottom inscription further clarifies her identity and status: \"Matoaks ats Rebecka daughter to the mighty Prince Powhatan: Emperour of Attanoughkomouck als Virginia converted and baptized in the Christian faith and Wife to the Wor Tho: Rolff.\".
This portrait captures her during her visit to England with her husband, John Rolfe, in 1616.
