Vintage Schmid #233 Walt Disney Minnie Mouse Musical Figurine – Made in Japan

A wonderfully nostalgicvintage Schmid Disney Minnie Mouse mechanical music box, made in Japan and retaining itsoriginal Schmid paper label to the wooden underside.

This particularly charming composition depictsMinnie Mouse dressed in pink, complete with her large pink bow, handbag and characteristic white gloves, seated in a colourful woodland setting beside a littleyellow bird perched on a tree stump.

The moulded ceramic base is beautifully detailed with textured green grass, flowers and woodland elements, giving the piece considerably more character than a simple standing Minnie figurine. The colours remain bright and cheerful, with Minnie's pink, black and cream colouring contrasting beautifully with the yellow bird and green landscape.

Most appealingly, the original mechanical music-box movement remainsworking.

♪ MUSIC

The music box plays:

“I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)”

The melody will be immediately familiar to many collectors because of its association with the celebrated1970s Coca-Cola “Hilltop” advertising campaign, which used the adapted“I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke”version.

Please note that this is aSchmid Disney music box and is not Coca-Cola branded; the Coca-Cola reference relates to the famous historical association of the melody.

SCHMID – MADE IN JAPAN

The underside retains the original:SCHMID 233 – MADE IN JAPANpaper manufacturer's label.

The label is an especially nice surviving feature and helps authenticate the piece as a Japanese-manufactured Schmid collectible. The ceramic body sits above its original wooden underside plate housing the mechanical musical movement.

AGE

Believed to date from approximately the1970s, consistent with the Schmid Japanese manufacture label and no. 233, styling and period use of theI’d Like to Teach the World to Singmelody.

CONDITION

This is agenuine vintage piece and is not perfect, so please read the condition description carefully. It displays extremely attractively overall, with strong colours and wonderful character. The bird, handbag, bow and other important decorative elements remain present.

There aretwo small areas of damage which should be noted:

• Asmall chip to one finger of Minnie’s raised hand.
• Asmall chip beneath/at the underside of Minnie’s dress, which is considerably less noticeable when the music box is displayed.

These are relatively minor but are mentioned clearly for complete accuracy. Please examine the close-up photographs carefully. There may also be minor surface wear commensurate with the age of a vintage ceramic piece.

✓ Original Schmid label survives
✓ Made in Japan
✓ Original musical mechanism present
✓ Music box is working
✓ Plays “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”
✓ Attractive Minnie Mouse and bird composition

Vintage Disney • Minnie Mouse • Schmid music boxes • Japanese Disney ceramics • vintage mechanical music boxes • 1970s nostalgia • Disneyana
