Vintage Staffordshire Spaniel Dogs Pair Made in England Gold Lustre 9.25\" c1950

A matching pair of mid-twentieth-century English Staffordshire Revival spaniel mantel figures, dating to circa 1945–1960. Each seated dog is formed as a hollow moulded earthenware body beneath a white glaze and retains a small original firing vent at the rear. The undersides are stamped MADE IN ENGLAND together with a secondary small production or decorator mark.

The figures are decorated with hand-applied black patches and facial details, including black noses and dark markings to the ears and bodies. Gold-lustre ornament defines the collars, chains and pendant details, providing the traditional metallic embellishment associated with Staffordshire Revival production of the period. The modelling is comparatively clean and standardised, with smooth moulded contours and balanced proportions characteristic of post-war English decorative ceramics.

Extensive age-related glaze crazing and crackle is visible throughout both figures, while the gold-lustre decoration shows natural fading and wear. These surface characteristics are consistent with their mid-century manufacture and are distinct from structural damage. The pair remains structurally sound, with no chips or structural cracks observed.
