Beautiful vintage Mexican pottery vase attributed to the Tlaquepaque/Jalisco pottery tradition.
This substantial earthenware vase is decorated by hand in wonderful opaque polychrome colors of blue, green, terracotta, black and ochre. The entire body is covered with horizontal bands of intricate geometric and stylized designs, giving it a striking Southwestern / Mexican folk-art appearance.
The decoration is especially interesting up close. Each band has a different pattern, including stepped geometric forms, spirals, dots, fine linear designs and repeating motifs reminiscent of pre-Columbian design.
Tlaquepaque and neighboring Tonalá, Jalisco are both historic centers of Mexican pottery production, and pottery from the region is frequently identified under either name. This piece was originally purchased and identified as Tlaquepaque opaque polychrome pottery. It is unsigned, so I cannot confirm a particular maker or workshop.

CONDITION
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear.
There are scattered small areas of paint/pigment loss, rubbing and surface marks consistent with the age and handmade nature of the piece. The underside shows remnants of an old label or adhesive.
