Vintage WW1 Newspapers Iowa Spanish Flu Versailles Treaty Prohibition Suffrage:
$145.75

This is a lot of 44 newspapers from the small town of Marengo, Iowa. The papers cover July 1917 to Sept 1919 - a turbulent period in American and worldhistory - WW1 (draft, sending troops to fight and their return), Spanish flu, the Treaty of Versailles, Prohibition was coming into effect, women protesting the right to vote and the formation of the League of Nations. All these events were major catalysts for the future we live today.
This is a unique small town perspective on these events. They listed all the men drafted in WW1, the family losses were more personal and victory more sweet.
This was a weekly newspaper, the publisher seems to have had a few name changes during this period, but it is the same Marengo newspaper company
You get:8 papers from 191727 from 19189 from 1919 - including a 2-part WW1 victory edition.
All have great vintage advertising too - Fordson tractors, Buicks, Studebakers, Velvet tobacco, and more.
PLUS - a very cool feature - each newspaper folds out to one large, uncut, 40" x 52" poster-like sheet of paper. These newspapers provide quite the leap back into one of the most pivotal points in America and world history, all from the perspective of a small town in Iowa. You'll be very satisfied with the content.
All are in good overall condition, especially for their age - considering these are newspapers and being made of some of the cheapest paper material, definitely don't expect perfection. But considering the above, you should be quite impressed with most of these papers. You can handle and turn pages without much fear, but you still want to exercise care. Many have tears, stains here and there, some corners are missing, some flaking, and obvious creases and crinkles. There are going to be small places wear the content might be missing due to the above but, at least 95-98% of the articles are completely legible. No major issues that will distract you from the excellent content. Shipping and the blah, blah, blah... I'm a one-man-band BUT, I still will get your order in the mail the same or next business day, ALWAYS with efforts to prevent shipping damage while in transit.
