Exceptional vintage Walt Disney / Rand McNally “World Globe”, a wonderful piece of early Disney character merchandise combining classic mid-century cartography with extensive Disney artwork.
This is not a modern decorative Disney globe. It is an original mid-century educational globe produced by Rand McNally in association with Walt Disney, with Disney characters incorporated throughout the world map as guides, travelers and commentators.

The period map itself is particularly interesting to collectors. Its political geography and terminology—including names associated with the colonial/postwar era—place the design firmly in the 1950s period, making this as appealing as a piece of mid-century Americana and cartographic history as it is Disneyana.
Throughout the globe are beautifully rendered appearances by classic Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, Huey, Dewey & Louie, Tinker Bell and others. The characters interact with the geography through humorous captions and travel-related illustrations: Mickey photographs the world, Donald and the nephews explore different regions, and additional characters appear across the continents and oceans.
The metal pedestal base is itself a major part of the appeal and is decorated all the way around with colorful Disney character artwork. The combination of the large illustrated world globe and character-covered base gives this considerably more display presence than the typical vintage Disney educational toy.
For a Disneyana collector, this is an especially appealing survivor because it represents the period when Disney merchandise was still heavily tied to Walt-era character art, educational products and established American manufacturers such as Rand McNally. It displays beautifully alongside early Disneyland merchandise, 1950s character toys, maps, globes and other pre-1960 Disney collectibles.
Condition
Original vintage condition with age and use visible throughout.
The globe retains very attractive color and excellent overall graphic presence. There is expected scattered surface wear, rubbing, scratches, spotting/soiling and age-related discoloration, particularly along portions of the lower hemisphere and equatorial seam. The character graphics remain bright and highly displayable.
There is one small/shallow dent in the Atlantic Ocean area of the globe. It is visible on close examination but does not significantly detract from the overall appearance of the piece.
The metal base has scratches, edge wear, small marks and other normal signs of age. The Disney character graphics on the base remain particularly strong. The underside also shows scratches, spotting and general storage wear.
The globe appears structurally intact and displays very nicely. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they show the actual item and form an important part of the condition description.
No restoration is being represented. Sold exactly as pictured.
