Condition: Pre owned vintage condition with age and use wear
Vintage metal wing style pencil compass and scribing layout tool with adjustable pencil holder, pointed steel leg, spring ring pivot, and fine adjustment screw.
This traditional layout instrument was designed for drawing and scribing circles and arcs as well as transferring measurements during woodworking, carpentry, drafting, machining, and other layout work. One leg terminates in a sharp metal point that serves as the center pivot while the opposite curved leg holds a pencil for marking the work surface.
The compass features a large circular spring at the upper pivot with a knurled adjustment screw along with a threaded fine adjustment mechanism positioned between the legs. The pencil holder is adjustable using a knurled retaining screw and currently holds the pencil shown in the photos.
No manufacturer name, model number, country of manufacture, or other identifying markings were observed, so the maker is unknown.
The compass is in good used vintage condition overall with scratches, patina, discoloration, finish wear, and other surface wear consistent with age and previous use. The adjustment mechanisms are present and the legs open and close. The metal center point remains intact and pointed. The pencil shows considerable previous use and is included as pictured.
