The menu retains the period telephone number “Tel. Cloverdale 2-2267,” using the old named telephone-exchange format associated with this era. The typography, pricing and overall presentation are also consistent with a late-1950s/early-1960s date.
The menu features elaborate House Special Dinners for parties of two through ten, beginning at just $6.00 for two people and increasing at a flat $3-per-person rate to only $30.00 for ten people. Offerings include Young Chow Wonton Soup, lobster rolls, stuffed fan-tail shrimp, dim sum, roast pork and spare ribs, lobster fried wonton, fried rice, chicken dishes, roast duck, ice cream, cookies, preserved fruits and lychee nuts. An additional plate cost only 25¢.
Of particular interest, the bottom of the menu bears handwritten Chinese characters along with what appears to be the signature “John Ching.” A period advertisement for New China Inn at this same 1995 Flatbush Avenue address identifies John Ching as the restaurant's proprietor, with John Chow as manager. The signature therefore appears consistent with that of the restaurant's proprietor
