Vtg 1940s DeVilbiss Opalescent Perfume Atomizer Thorens Music Box Base (READ): $49.99
Item Description: Up for sale is a beautiful, 100% factory-original circa 1945–1948 vintage DeVilbiss perfume atomizer vanity bottle permanently mounted to its authentic, musical base. This elegant mid-century piece features a striking opalescent swirled glass body paired tiered housing. The underside of the dark wooden base features a highly collectible, original Swiss mechanical movement produced by the renowned Thorens factory in Switzerland. The wood is explicitly ink-stamped with the Thorens \"Alpen\" export line shield, alongside the classic American pop standard melody title, \"Let Me Call You Sweetheart.\" You can also see the faint, authentic factory-stamped DeVilbiss \"D-in-a-diamond\" trademark right beside the Swiss shield, proving this was an original factory collaboration. When functioning properly, this luxury piece was designed so that lifting the heavy bottle from the vanity releases a spring plunger rod on the bottom, playing the romantic tune while you applied your perfume.Condition Details: - Glass Body: Excellent vintage condition. The opalescent swirled glass is beautiful, clean, and entirely free of chips, cracks, or deep scratches.
- Metal & Finish: The gold-plated brass shows a lovely, light vintage patina and minor age-appropriate wear, but presents wonderfully for display.
- Music Box Mechanism: The internal Swiss Thorens mechanism is entirely intact and winds up successfully. However, it currently runs sporadically—it requires a slight tilt or a gentle tap on the spring-loaded plunger rod to keep playing consistently. This is a very common issue for 1940s mechanisms caused by dried-up factory grease, and it likely just needs a basic, standard degreasing/oiling to run smoothly.
- Completeness: The top metal cap assembly is present, but the original rubber pump and fabric-wrapped hose are missing (very common as old mid-century rubber naturally degrades over time). Replacement bulb/hose kits can be found cheaply online if you wish to fully restore it.
- Approximately 5.5 inches tall with base.
